The risk of depression increases

In 2014, a study of adult twins was conducted where researchers found that sleeping more than 9 hours at night could increase the risk of developing depression up to 49%.

It can affect your brain negatively

A study in 2012 reveals that elderly women who have slept more than 9 hours every night (or less than 5) over a period of 6 years experience deterioration in the functionality of their brain.

It’s harder for you to become pregnant

In 2013, Korea’s research team analyzed the sleep habits of more than 650 women who underwent in vitro fertilization. They found that the chances of pregnancy were greater in those women who slept from 7 to 8 hours, and the smallest in those who slept from 9 to 11 hours.

Excessive sleep may increase the risk of diabetes

In a small study in Quebec, researchers found that people who slept more than 8 hours during the evening had greater chances of developing type 2 diabetes or reduced glucose tolerance over a period of 6 years, unlike those who slept between 7 and 8 hours during the evening.

May cause weight gain

Same researchers in the 6-year period also observed the weight of their respondents. They found that those who slept from 9 to 10 hours each night had 25% more chances of getting 5 kg, even if they were in a certain diet and physically active.

A 2012 survey shows that sleep over 8 hours each night can be associated with an increased risk of various heart disease. The researchers analyzed data from over 3,000 people and found that those who sleep very much have a higher risk of developing angina and coronary artery disease.

Excessive sleep may lead to early death

In 2010, the researchers conducted an audit of 16 different studies involving 1,382,999 subjects and found that the risk of early death in those who slept more than 8 hours during the evening was 1.3 times higher.
