Health experts have issued a warning about the performance of energy drinks that are full of sugar, caffeine and various stimulants.
Scientists claim that drinking only one energy drink exposes even young, healthy individuals to an increased risk of heart disease.
Experts from a US research group gave 25 volunteers a large can, which is available in normal sales, an energy drink, for two different days. They found that drinking a stimulant drink caused an increase in blood pressure in about half an hour. Norepinephrine hormone levels in the blood as well as the growing level of caffeine have been observed.
Everything was recently presented at a meeting organized by the American Heart Association. Norepinephrine is a chemical substance that increases the pressure and ability for cardiac contraction, modulates heart rhythm and respiration in response to stress.
These acute changes can cause heart problems but also predispose to increased cardiovascular risks. More research is needed to determine if these acute changes affect cardiovascular risk.
